The descendants of Pablo Escobar’s “cocaine hippos” are reportedly multiplying, inflicting rising issues amongst locals about their rising presence.
In response to CNN and Vice, there are at the moment about 170 hippos roaming northwest Colombia.
Native officers at the moment are working to deal with points associated to the invasive species, which reportedly have begun attacking individuals.
As reported by CBS Information and Vice, residents who’ve encountered the animals have been hospitalized.
“They’re very, very harmful,” one native instructed FOX Information.
College students and oldsters at a faculty in Doradal reportedly encountered one of many descendants of “cocaine hippo” when one of many animals appeared within the schoolyard whereas they have been current.
“The moms get scared once they see an animal of that dimension,” stated instructor Dunia Arango.
In response to a neighborhood environmental official, David Echeverri, a number of hippos have settled in a lake 20 yards from the varsity and he worries that the 35 kids who play close by might “provoke a tragedy” by interacting with the animals.

Consultants warn that with out intervention, the hippo inhabitants might surge to 1,000 by 2035.
