Virginia State College’s 2025 graduation ceremonies became unforgettable celebrations of HBCU tradition and unity on Saturday as graduates in each ceremonies broke into the viral “Boots on the Floor” dance—sparked by a shock second led by VSU President Dr. Makola M. Abdullah.
The college held two graduation workouts contained in the VSU Multipurpose Heart. The morning ceremony at 8:30 a.m. honored graduates from the Faculty of Training and the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences. The afternoon ceremony at 1:30 p.m. celebrated these graduating from the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Engineering & Know-how, Faculty of Pure & Well being Sciences, and the Reginald F. Lewis Faculty of Enterprise.
In each ceremonies, simply after the turning of the tassels and earlier than college students crossed the stage, President Abdullah invited graduates to look beneath their seats. There, they discovered handheld followers—positioned deliberately as a nod to the favored lyric from 803Fresh’s hit: “The place them followers at?”
What made the second much more cute on the livestream of the occasion was the signal language interpreter getting in on the motion and dancing on display screen.
President Abdullah inspired the brand new HBCU graduates to bop alongside or just benefit from the second. Because the beat dropped, college students erupted into motion, clapping the followers in rhythm and performing the viral “Boots on the Floor” dance. The celebratory interlude lasted about 1 minute and 20 seconds, capturing the enjoyment, satisfaction, and cultural richness of the VSU Class of 2025.
