AB Williamson, the person who led Washington D.C.-based HBCU Howard College to its first-ever NCAA Match look has handed away.
Williamson is Howard’s all-time winningest coach, with a 108-62 MEAC document. His finest season was in 1986-87, with a 25-5 total document and a 13-1 convention document.
AB Williamson coached at Howard College from 1976 to 1990, reaching a 241-182 document. He led the group to back-to-back MEAC Match championships in 1980 and 1981 and an NCAA Match look in 1981. That 1981 Howard group received the MEAC Match championship and earned the first-ever NCAA Match look by a MEAC group, reflecting a robust postseason run.
Howard College struggled to seek out success following Williamson’s departure in 1990, profitable only one MEAC title within the subsequent 30 years. It has returned to prominence below head coach Kenneth Blakeney, who has led the group to back-to-back MEAC titles and NCAA Match appearances.

Blakeney launched a press release reflecting on the affect of AB Williamson at Howard College.
“One of many nice honors for me throughout my time at Howard has been the connection I’ve shaped with him. AB served as our “Captain of the Day” in 2022 and was on the ground alongside me as we accepted the 2023 MEAC Match Trophy, bridging the hole between so many eras of Bison greats.
We keep in mind Coach Williamson as greater than a coach; he was a builder of character and a pillar of our neighborhood. His legacy because the winningest coach in Howard’s historical past is mirrored within the numerous lives he touched and the enduring spirit of excellence he fostered.
Coach Williamson, thanks in your unwavering dedication, profound knowledge, and extraordinary legacy at “The Mecca”. You’ve got left an indelible mark on all of us, and you’ll be deeply missed. Relaxation in peace.”
Williamson performed his school basketball at one other fellow HBCU North Carolina A&T below the tutelage of legendary males’s basketball coach Cal Irvin.
