*(CNN) — The inmate accused of stabbing Derek Chauvin, the previous police officer convicted in George Floyd’s killing, has been charged with tried homicide, in response to courtroom paperwork.
In accordance with the federal criticism, at roughly 12:30 p.m. native time on November 24, Chauvin was within the legislation library at FCI-Tucson when John Turscak, 52, attacked him with an improvised knife and stabbed him roughly 22 occasions, inflicting critical bodily damage.
“Federal corrections places of work instantly responded and deployed OC spray to subdue Turscak,” the legal criticism added.
In accordance with the criticism, Turscak informed the corrections officers he would have killed Chauvin had they not responded so shortly.
Turscak had been considering attacking Chauvin for about a month, it added.
Turscak has been charged with 4 counts, together with tried homicide, assault with intent to commit homicide, assault with a harmful weapon and assault leading to critical bodily damage.
CNN has reached out to Chauvin’s lawyer Friday for remark.
