Jackson State raced to a three-touchdown lead early within the first half and by no means appeared again in a 33-15 victory over Southern in non-conference motion on Saturday evening at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The win was the fifth consecutive for Jackson State within the sequence.
Jackson State (2-1) used 201 yards on the bottom by seven completely different ball carriers on Saturday to expire to a 23-3 halftime lead it will not relinquish. Irv Mulligan led the group with 53 yards and a landing on 13 carries in his season debut, whereas J.D. Martin added 37 yards on 12 carries in his debut. Ahmad Miller added 35 yards and Travis Terrell Jr. 34 within the win.
Jacobian Morgan, who changed an injured Cam’Ron McCoy, led the offense with 153 passing yards and a landing. Extensive receiver Isaiah Spencer led the best way with 5 receptions for 41 yards, whereas Joanes Fortilien added 60 yards on three catches.
Jackson State head coach T.C. Taylor stated the severity and nature of McCoy’s damage has but to be decided.
“We’ll proceed to guage him,” he instructed the media after the sport. “I haven’t actually bought with the trainers to see the state of affairs on him. So we’ll get in there tomorrow and see what sort of issues go along with him.”
On protection, Day Day Vibrant led the Tigers with eight tackles, all solo. Reid Pulliam added six, and Joshua Nobles six with 2.5 sacks. The Tigers defensive unit accounted for 2 turnovers, together with interceptions from Ke’Vric Wiggins Jr. and Dimonyia Lacey.
