Lizzo is moving into the performing world by honoring considered one of music’s true pioneers.
This week, the Grammy-winning celebrity introduced her lead performing debut in Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming movie “Rosetta,” the place she’ll tackle the position of Sister Rosetta Tharpe—the legendary gospel singer and electrical guitar trailblazer hailed because the “Godmother of Rock and Roll.” Recognized for her genre-blending sound and unapologetic artistry, Lizzo is now bringing Tharpe’s groundbreaking story to life on display.

Born in 1915, Tharpe was the daughter of cotton pickers who had been devoted members of the COGIC religion. By age six, she was already a musical prodigy, touring the nation taking part in guitar and singing at church conventions.
