Michael Vick grew up on Norfolk State football. Did he ever want to be a Spartan?

Standing inside William “Dick” Value Stadium isn’t one thing new for Michael Vick.

Earlier than he grew to become a Virginia highschool, faculty, after which NFL star, the present Norfolk State coach spent a number of fall Saturdays as a youth watching the Spartans play soccer.

Vick recounted the expertise throughout a latest interview at New York’s Fanatics Fest and was requested whether or not he thought of attending the HBCU.

“I grew up watching Norfolk State, not aspiring to go to Norfolk State as a faculty, as a result of I knew my course in an effort to make it to the NFL,” Vick instructed The Philadelphia Inquirer. “However my coaches in Pop Warner used to take us to Norfolk State video games, and I keep in mind the sport was simply thrilling. Vick, an elite highschool quarterback at Warwick Excessive Faculty in Newport Information, dedicated to Virginia Tech. Whereas there, Vick led the Hokies to the 1999 BCS Nationwide Championship Sport and completed third in Heisman Trophy voting as a sophomore.

Now Vick returns to the place the place he watched video games years in the past—earlier than he grew to become an NFL star—to assist lead Norfolk State again to prominence as a coach.
